Isn’t it always the case that if something is going to go wrong it will happen when we really don’t need it. It’s the same for pipework also, and it is definitely not good when a pipe splits and leaks. To effect a repair on a broken pipe is not a very difficult job to do if you are confident in your ability. The main thing to remember before you begin is to completely drain the system. Here is a very brief guide for making a heating pipe repair: First, isolate the mains power for the central heating system, and then isolate the water supply. Drain the water from the affected pipework by using the taps to let all the excess water drain. Harringay Plumbers can repair pipes. Next, put a bucket underneath the position of the damaged section. Now the water is drained, you can begin to repair the pipe. Next, cut the pipe on either side of the burst so you end up with two ends. Now, clean both ends of the pipes with some wire wool and make sure the ends do not have any burrs, you should use a half round file to de-burr. Measure the amount of replacement pipe required and cut a new piece. Use a 15 mm or (1/2 in) brass slip connector and 15 mm (1/2 in) copper pipe. Fit the slip connector into place over the cut-out. A Harringay Plumber is qualified to fix all appliances. Now tighten the cap-nuts using a wrench. Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks. If the pipe has really bad damage, cut the section out and connect a new pipe by using two compression or push-fit connectors. If you are going to use plastic fittings or pipe for the replacement, you will need to keep the earth continuity of the pipework by fitting an earth clamp to the copper pipe and then link the clamps using 2 single-core insulated earth cables.
